What is Child Fatality Review (CFR)?

Child Fatality Review (CFR) is the process of closely examining all information related to child deaths.  Reviews are conducted at the county level by the CFR Committee in the child county's of residence.  The purpose of the review is to:

  • Gather accurate and thorough information about the events leading up to and surrounding the death (including contributing factors)
  • Generate legislative, policy and practice changes for the purpose of preventing future deaths
  • Promote collaboration and coordination among the participating agencies
